Not Chicken Pox

Mira woke up one day with bumps all over her legs. It was weird as you hear about chicken pox and all other sorts of rashes, but we couldn’t figure out what this was. She didn’t have a fever and had no other symptoms. Our Dr. was pretty certain that whatever it was, “It’s not chicken pox.”

If you are Mira and you hear that, it must sound more like, “You have chicken pox.” Because that’s exactly what she would say for the next few weeks, “I have chicken pox.” and my favorite, “That chicken keeps biting me. He’s not very nice, he needs to go in a timeout.” Comical really.

What’s also strange is that 3 or 4 other kids in Mira’s school got it shortly afterwards. And you can still see remnants of this on her legs 4 weeks later. Here’s what they looked like:

That chicken is not very nice!

We figured that Luna would be next and sure enough, she did get a rash. Only this one was much worse. After much searching and a trip to the emergency room, we found out it was her Graco infant car seat. Yeah, the car seat is coated with some fire-resistant chemicals that were causing a reaction. You can see how this looks, it was nasty!

Curse you Graco!

I’m not going to get into too many specifics as I’m not inclined to spend too much energy complaining about Graco.

Even with the rashes, we all piled into the cars and headed to Muskegon for the Memorial day weekend. Mark and I spent a bit of time working on his boat and gearing up again for the fishing trip at the end of June. Mira got in the boat to help me out. I have no idea what we were doing here, but it looks important. And I’m amazed that I’ve been able to keep Mira’s attention for more than 5 seconds.

Yes, she's been eating cheetos.

Luna complained the whole time and screamed as usual.

If she was a dwarf, she'd be sleepy

I must say that Luna has been growing and getting more active and she’s actually starting to eat rice cereal.

Mmmmm, good!

The four of us loaded up in the car one day and drove over to the channel at Duck Lake and Lake Michigan for some fun in the water and sun. Luna actually tried to find a different part of Erika’s body to get food from. Suffice to say that the boogers from her nose were not so tasty.

So hungry!

Mira is one of those kids who gets a plan and sticks to it at the beach. She’s not so much for interacting, she’s got a project and it’s gonna get done. Today’s project was to cover the tops of the wood sticking out of the ground with sand. It’s very important work and we’re all lucky that she was there to ensure that it was done properly.

Our little project manager.

Once back at Casa de Steinberg, Mark and I had a date with Lake Michigan and some Salmon. Lucky for us the weather was perfect and we were able to spend a magical evening out on the water. I snapped a shot as the sun was going down. The downriggers are probably 100 feet down and we didn’t get a single hit all night. Just Mark and I telling jokes and laughing on the lake. Quite honestly, I’m not sure I need a 30 pound Salmon on to make the evening better. Just don’t tell Mark, he’s pretty serious about catching fish!

Amazing night on the lake!
