Another long day in the Mitchell house

When last we left our fearless family, I had just dropped Erika off at the hospital without Luna. That night we still had to:

  1. Pick up Lindsay’s husband Alex from the airport
  2. Take Mira to her school Christmas pageant
  3. Feed Luna with the milk we had in the fridge
  4. Go back to the hospital and get more milk from Erika
  5. Then care for the newborn all night by myself.

I picked up Alex at the airport and felt better since Lindsay and I wouldn’t have to play zone coverage against the kids anymore (they no longer out numbered us).

Back home Mira was ready to go to the pageant so the two of us headed out. Mira actually does go to school Monday through Thursday from about 9 to noon at the local Early Education Center. The rest of the time while she is there she’s in daycare. But from 9 to noon she is with Peggy Kalister who is really helping Mira and her fine motors skills develop. I snuck a quick pic of the two here:

At the pageant, Mira started singing with  Mrs. Kalister’s class. Here’s the video:

After that, Mira headed out to her daycare class and got to perform for the second time with them. Video can be found here of this momentous occasion. Right at the beginning of this one Mira gets into an argument with another kid of who is who’s daddy. It’s pretty funny.

Santa showed up after the show which was surprisingly only 30 minutes. And of course my daughter was sprinting to the stage to get to him. That daughter of ours just loves Santa. Here’s is the picture of the event:

Each classroom had a small party after the show. Mira and I spent a few minutes at both classrooms so that Mira could properly play with all the toys that she normally plays with all day anyway. Good stuff. Mira’s daycare teacher, Mrs. Salerno got Mira a little gift and something for baby Luna. We grabbed a quick picture of the two of them in the hall:

Back at home, I dropped Mira off for Lindsay and flew off to the hospital to see Erika and refresh our milk supply. Erika’s condition was about the same. They had given her some blood pressure medication and decided not to do the Magnesium IV (that’s good). Her blood pressure was “ok” and she was trying to get some sleep. I could tell she was just heart broken and I can’t imagine how many tears she shed in that room. Poor thing. I didn’t stay for long as I had to get the milk back for Luna. I promised to head out early in the morning and stay up as late as I needed.

Mira was already in bed when I returned home. Lindsay discovered that we really didn’t have any “0” nipples for the bottles. All we had was 2’s and 3’s. Which are nipples with pretty big holes. Apparently Luna took one long draw, finished the bottle and let out the hugest belch ever. Classic.

I found the 2’s, got the bottles ready and headed to bed with Luna. My goal was to keep her alive all night and attempt to keep her fed. Luna pretty much slept from 10PM until 3AM. I know, that’s a long time for a newborn to go without eating. She really was on a 5 hour schedule prior to this. However, from 3 AM until 5:45AM she was wide awake and plowing through breast milk. As a matter a fact, she drank ALL the milk we had left. Luckily, she went back to sleep at 5:45 an I was able to sleep with her until 8AM. Hey, that’s a solid 6 hours of sleep for me. Awesome!

In the AM I went back to the hospital and Erika was doing a bit better and they thought she would be able to leave sometime during the day. Great! I grabbed some more milk and headed home to get Mira ready for a Santa party at the community shelter. Erika called right before we were about to leave and got discharged! I headed straight over, got Erika and brought her home before we left. You can’t imagine how happy Erika was to see the girls and be back home. She’s just gotta take it easy, take some blood pressure medicine every day and see the doctor next week.

Mira and I went to the party at Bain Cabin, just down the street from our house. Mira got to see Santa again. Good opportunity for another pic. Ah yes, here it is:

Cousin Darcy went and also got a pic with Santa. This one is awesome!

Back home we all got naps. Erika slept well: home, healthy and happy with her girls.

Oh and it was our 7th Wedding Anniversary. Happy Anniversary sweetie! Hopefully, we’ll have a few more that are a little less exciting.

We’re spending tomorrow in our jammies and doing absolutely nothing.
