Baby #2 and the first hospital trip “prebirth”

While at work today, Erika’s coworkers mentioned that she looked a bit puffy. And she noticed that she had had a headache for the past 2 days. Both of which are indicators of the problems we had when Mira was born. She made a quick call to her doctor and then found out she had to head straight to the hospital by our house.

We are now in the hospital, where Erika has been for the past few hours. Without boring you to tears with all the details. Here is some of the highlights:

  • Some of the tests don’t look good, some are ok.
  • Most of the indicators lead us to believe that Erika and the baby are ok, however things are not progressing normally.
  • Dr. Stark (our incredible doctor from Erika’s hometown), thinks that Erika may be able to leave by Friday if all goes well. And that means leave with the baby still in here.
  • Our best estimate puts the baby close to 4 pounds right now. For the record, Mira was 4lbs 6 ounces at birth.
  • More tests through the night and over the next couple of days.
  • We will chat with our high-risk OB tomorrow and get a better picture of where we are going.

Erika is officially due on December 17th, which is 7 weeks from today. This is a little early from where Dr. Stark would like to deliver the baby. The best estimate for when we think the baby is going to get here is sometime in the next 4 weeks.

So, that baby is coming. And it’s coming sooner than later. Erika and the baby are healthy, but in the hospital so that we can keep a close eye on them. We’re hoping to get her home in the next few days and we’re hoping that we can extend that date as long as possible.

I’ll send another update maybe tomorrow!
