The phone rang early this morning while Erika was driving Mira to daycare. It was Dr. Stark. Apparently Dr. Stark was not notified of Erika’s lab work from last week. Her platelets had dropped on Friday to 116, for those of you keeping score at home they begin to worry around 140 to 150. With Mira they had dropped 20, which was one of the reasons that Erika got so sick. HELLP syndrome has a huge warning sign of dropping platelets. We thought we may be safe, but that is a scary drop.

Dr. Stark asked Erika to grab me and our stuff and goto the hospital within the next hour. Dr. Stark called back a bit later and said that we would definitely be having a c-section today. Even if Erika’s platelets had come back it, it’s just not worth the risk at this point to potentially have Erika get sick like last time. What we don’t want to happen is for Erika to not be able to be awake and aware of what is going on when the baby gets here.

OMG, we’re gonna have a baby today!

WE ARE HAVING A BABY TODAY!

Yes, I know I’m screaming. It’s pretty exciting. So, we start making phone calls and packing the rest of our stuff. All of our recent planning went well. Our first choice to get Mira from daycare, Erika’s friend Lauren from work answered. Erika’s sister and her parents were in the car driving to Cleveland within an hour or so. My parents are coming this evening as well. We are ready.

We were so excited when we got to the hospital we made the valet take our picture. No joke. Here it is:

Up to the pre-operation room and we are now waiting for 2:30, which is when we are scheduled for the c-section. So excited to see the new baby Mitchell! We can’t wait to meet him or her.
