As concerned and worried as I was yesterday, we’ve had a pretty amazing day.
I had to go downtown for a work function this morning. But I was able to get up with Mira and get her some milk and put her in front of the TV before I left.
Erika tells me that she had a very good morning. She ate strawberries, blue berries, cheese, cereal and drank 1 1/2 cups of milk. She spent most of the morning on the couch resting. But when Erika put her down for her nap at noon, she did not go to sleep. No, she just sat in her bed and chatted with herself the entire time.
By the time I made it back home after 1PM, Erika was ready for a break. I went in Mira’s room and sure enough, she was wide awake.
We spent the next hour or so playing tent, eating, drinking and playing like we usually do. Mira seemed much like her old self. She is still unsteady when walking, but hasn’t fallen down or ran into anything dangerous (yet).
As a family, we spent most of the afternoon decorating the house for Christmas. Erika said that she’s been waiting for a very long time to decorate the Christmas tree with all three of us. Mira helped for a short while, then became bored and just hung out. We watched “The Christmas Story” and “The Grinch” this evening, Mira seemed to like both of them. Here is a picture of Mira decorating the tree this afternoon:
For dinner we gave her some chicken nuggets and ketchup. She promptly spooned the ketchup in her mouth with her hand and didn’t even eat the nuggets (comical). The good news is that she’s eating. Not as much as we’re used to, but definitely closer to 80% of the normal load. She looks good, she’s talking great and she had a hard stool today. That anti-nausea medicine Erika had the dr. prescribe was one heck of a good idea. I am so fortunate that my wife is an amazing nurse. I seriously doubt that anyone else would have figured out to put Mira on anti-nausea medicine before things got even worse than they already were.
I wouldn’t say we’re completely out of the woods yet, but if we have another 2 days like today. I’m going to be sleeping a lot more soundly at night. That’s for sure.
We are thinking about taking Mira outside tomorrow, maybe even go down to the river where she loves to hang out in the metropark.
When we put Mira to bed at night, we also snuggle into our bed with her and read her stories. Her current favorite story is called, “The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry And The Big Hungry Bear” Clearly she cannot read, but she has memorized enough of the book to give it a pretty good attempt at a read. We decided to video tape her reading it tonight. It about 2 minutes long and if you’ve never read this book, it may be difficult to follow along. But from our vantage point, this is just gold!
It’s been a fantastic day and we are optimistic that tomorrow will prove to be another great day for Mira’s recovery!

Mira, Gramma is so proud of you…I love when you read that story to me!
