What I did on my summer Vacation (part 1)

Yes, our summer vacation has come and gone. But we tried to get the most out of it. We spent our vacation on the sunny shores of Lake Michigan. So much fun. We probably weren’t in Muskegon for 12 hours and we were already on the beach with the boogie board. I’d like to say that Mira is a machine and can roll in the waves, but she likes to drag the boogie board around much more than ride it in the water.

Welcome to the beach!

Luna and Auntie Z were hanging out. People in Cleveland have no idea what a beach really is. I’ve gotta say that Lake Michigan is not quite Hawaii, but it’s as good as many of the beaches we’ve spent time at in Southern California. Luna was especially excited.

Welcome!

My buddy Scott came in from Metro Detroit, Mike drove in from Washington, we were there from Cleveland and Charlie came in from Madison, WI. Crazy that we all went to high school together and now live in 4 different states.

Old friends

We spent the first few days fishing quite a bit. Didn’t take too many pictures, but we had a blast and caught quite a few fish. I am amazed at how many matching outfits Mira and Luna have. Mommy loves the girls to look good!

Sisters!

And summer in Western Michigan means carnivals. Which means rides, rides, rides. Mira has done this enough to know and enjoy every minute. Here she is with Charlie’s daughter Kailani.

Girls in Cars

We got Erika to go for a ride on the roller coaster with Mira and Kailani. I’m not sure that Erika realized quite how fast this thing would go. Mira just kept saying, “Just scream mommy! Scream!”

Coaster!

Charlie was nice enough to take Mira on Dumbo. However, as this was not a Disney sanctioned carnival, we don’t call it Dumbo. We just call it flying elephants. At which time Mira will say, “No daddy, that’s Dumbo” At which time we went back to calling it Dumbo.

Dumbo

And for the final treat of our first few days, the girls got to play a carnival game and win a prize. Kailani, Gigi and Mira could have their pic of a dozen or so prizes from the wall. Kailani says, “I want the red ball!” Gigi says, “I want the Blue ball” and then Mira says, “I want the horn.”

I was like, “What horn.” Sure enough they had a horn. Seriously, they put a big loud horn on the wall as one of the kids prizes. The carnival worker gave me one of those “Sorry about your luck dude” looks. Cmon Mira, how about a princess crown? Or a ball, or jewerly? Anything but that stupid horn. “No daddy, I want the horn.”

Awesome, super duper awesome. I’d like to say that it was quiet and didn’t make any noise. But it’s terrifically loud and only completely annoying.

Why the horn?

Up next on the summer vacation. We mysteriously lose the horn, catch Salmon, spend too much time at the beach and visit friends all up the western coast of Michigan.
