Another day in paradise

We arrived at the University Hospital/Rainbow Babies ER around 10AM. Mira received an X-Ray and an IV pretty quickly. The general thought was that she had issues with: constipation (caused by the pain meds she was on) or the flu. We waited in the ER room and watched movies on our laptop until we were admitted around 1PM.

Mira did a considerable amount of crying whilst in the ER. What 2 year old likes getting poked and proded after a 4 day stay and brain surgery? Seriously. We did have fun playing “Choo Choo Train” outside the X-Ray room. Mira would hang on while Erika or I would hold her and we would shuffle and shake. “Choo Choo! Chuga, chuga, choo choo!” That was probably the highlight of her morning.

Back up to the 5th floor of Rainbow Babies we went. Room 5602 is the actual room number. Mira was once again, not impressed with the return to the floor she probably figured was long behind her. After chatting with another parent, we also found out that the boy she had spent the day with after surgery became sick and started vomiting just like Mira the night before. Strange coincidence eh?

Mira started to become quite attached to her IV about this time. If you came close to the tubing or IV itself, you’d hear, “No touch! Mine, not yours!” Yup, she probably realized that thing hurts if you have to get another one.

After looking things over a bit more. The general consensus with the doctors was that our major concern right now was constipation. Which puts her in a considerable amount of pain, which leads to more pain meds, which leads to more constipation. You can probably see where this is going. 2 enemas and about 18 hours later, we struck nasty brown gold around 9AM.

Along the process, Mira somehow found a little (red, yellow and blue) car that she grew attached to. Whenever she wasn’t taking a nap, she had to be sitting in this car. When we went for a walk around the floor, “No inside car! This way!” It’s pretty funny how everything is the most important event ever for her. I suppose that won’t change until after she gets out of college. You can see a pic of her in the car here:

We are hopeful that we might be heading out this afternoon/evening. But there is no guarantees of that. Mira has just been given the go ahead to eat some cereal or crackers. She’s not terribly interested in either. But I’m watching her spoon herself milk out of the cereal bowl. That’s a start right?

Here’s to hoping that Mira eats, sleeps and poops before 5PM and we head home!
