September in Michigan

September was a busy month for us. Erika was busy visiting with friends and looking for a new job (which was more difficult than we had anticipated). Mira was busy settling into a new school and getting the lay of our new yard. We decided to rent a house for a year and get a better lay of the land here in Rockford, Michigan. We found this little 3 bedroom ranch on a dirt road that’s off a dirt road which is about 8 miles outside of Rockford. Yeah, we live in the sticks. The closest house is at least a football field away, something that we’ve never known. Mira seems to like it. I think she especially likes being able to run around with minimal supervision. This particular day she decided that she wanted to draw on the sidewalk and wear a winter hat in 80+ degree weather. Fun!

Drawing Pictures!

We had to take a couple of pictures because it looked so ridiculous. Short sleeve shirt and the flannel hat, gotta love the fashion tastes of a four year old!

What todo next?

Luna is about to crawl. It’s nearly official. She’s doing these “baby pushups” as you can see here.

Almost there!

And of course Mira is getting sassier every day. She loves having people take pictures of her now and always wants to see the picture after you take it.

Dancin girl!

And Mira started her first day of school as well. Yes, she is walking down the driveway and yes it is a dirt driveway. She was so excited to see an actual yellow bus take her to school!

1st day of school

Yes, John Walz has his pants down in this picture. Dances with Dirt came and went again. My team won the race for the 8th time this year. It’s pretty amazing considering there is close to 400 teams in the race. I’d like to say that John and I can still run pretty well, but this year we brought in a bunch of super fast young guys to carry the load. They did a great job. And our theme was square cut speedos. We’d have all modeled properly for the photo but it was raining and super cold.

Erika also ran in the race with her dad and a few other guys who stepped in for a team with multiple revolving spots it seems like. Nate Garza (middle) and Ryan Otter (the tall one) were the new guys this year. They had a blast and there were only minor injuries.

"Pops and the kids" 2010 DWD

Erika said she stepped into a 3 foot muck hole and a root hit her calf. This was the bruise a few days later. Ouch! It’s still pretty sore over two months later!

War wound

What would a Mitchell Story post be without a smiling picture of Luna? Luckily, we’ve got more than a few of these!

Glad to see ya!
