Say what you want, you just can’t recreate the innocence and magic of those first few Christmas eves when you really get it. Santa is coming, my whole family is here. I’ve been super good. I really want a present. For Mira, all those thing applied this year. And she knew exactly what she wanted: A Pink Pig Pillow Pet. She’d been talking about it for months, she talked about it to Santa. She talked about it to anyone who would listen. Well, on Christmas eve we visited uncle Scott and Corinne Fauble. It was a house full of kids, and adults, good food and drinks. We made ice cream from a churn. It was awesome. And lo and behold, before the night was over. We heard a jingling of bells and guess who came to visit?
Yes, it’s true. Santa came to visit. He had a white beard and his red suit. And he laughed and brought presents (and looked a lot like uncle Scott). You’re not gonna believe this. But he brought Mira her pink pillow pet. “She always wanted it.”
Then Mira and Jaden sat on Santa’s lap and sang a few Christmas carols. They were so excited! But Santa had to leave and go bring presents for the other boys and girls. So off he went.
After that we went back to Erika’s grandmother’s place where we were staying. Erika pulled out the matching owl jammies. Seriously, I can’t make this stuff up. She had 3 pairs of matching fuzzy owl jammies. Classic!
Luna got to stay up way past her bedtime. Call me crazy, but I think she liked that quite a bit!
Christmas morning brought as you could imagine, more presents. Here’s a question for you: What do you get a little girl that just moved into a winter ski town who’s already had brain surgery. If you guessed a helmet, you’re correct!
Erika got a nice little surprise from her mother, this Spartan green stained glass she’d been wanting for years.
Once we got back to our house a few days later. The girls mostly forgot about their toys and spent time doing what all kids do for Christmas. Yep that’s right, find the biggest box you can and climb in it! I’ve no idea why we spend so much money on gifts. Just get the boxes and they’d be perfectly happy.
Grandma and Grandpa Mitchell came to watch the girls for New Years while Erika and I went to visit some of Erika’s friends. Mira got a trampoline but apparently I don’t have a ton of pictures of that yet. Don’t worry, many will be forthcoming. Mira won’t get off that crazy thing.
All in all, it was a wonderful holiday season at the Mitchell house. It’s great to be back in Michigan so close to family and friends. Can’t wait for a great 2011!
